Why I’m Setting Goals For 2017 Now!

setting goals for 2017 - planning and goal setting for the new year. business and life goals

I have always been one for ‘New Year’s Resolutions’. I love that fresh start feeling of January 1st (especially considering I don’t drink so don’t feel the New Year’s Eve hangover…).

However, I have felt in recent years my New Year goal setting and planning efforts have been slightly rushed. Due to juggling both my online work and a freelance makeup business, I’m a busy bee. Particularly over the Christmas period, I am lucky to be booked up with party makeups right through, so don’t really get a full week off until January.

So here’s why I’m writing out my business and personal goals for 2017, in November.

  • I want to hit the ground running

As much as I love the ‘new year, new me’ vibes, I do think there’s merit to just starting NOW, in this moment. Yes, there are big goals I want to achieve next year. And I’m already starting to work towards them – through research, planning, brainstorming and goal setting. Take this time to dig into your passions and hobbies – read, listen to podcasts, watch TED talks, anything that educates you on what you want to achieve. Come January 1st, you’ll be equipped with the information you need to implement in your every day life, to get to where you want to be.

  • I don’t like to rush

An annual, bi-annual or even monthly plan takes a lot of time for a business, and I want to be sure I’ve got everything covered. Whenever I look over my goal list and notes, I’m always jotting down new ideas and expanding on the ones I already have.

Everyone works differently, but I know that if I allow myself mental space to get creative, that’s when I come up with the good stuff. Taking a few moments each week to think ahead and get excited is bringing up so many strategies and action plans for me.

  • It beats the Winter slump

The weather gets colder, the days get shorter and the food servings get larger. Everything about Winter makes me want to get under my duvet, put Netflix on and scoff the contents of my snack cupboard. There are many days where the last thing I want to do is get proactive, go to the gym and have a really productive day of work.

However, that’s EXACTLY what I feel like doing when I read through my 2017 goals. They make me excited, they motivate me and they make me want to take action TODAY to make them happen. So I can save the Winter slump for Christmas Eve in my PJs.

Let me know! Are you starting to think about what you want to achieve in your life next year? I’d love to know how early on you get excited about New Year’s Resolutions and goals. Leave me a comment below.

Love, Kat x
